Nations Ministry Center currently operates a Refugee Center in West Nashville. At the
Refugee Center, we sponsor the following programs:
Kindergarten Readiness
A team of dedicated volunteers and Heather Cain, program director, provide a high quality learning environment
for 15 refugee preschoolers. With many of their parents unable to speak English yet, this program is the primary way
these little ones learn English and are introduced to American school culture. Besides learning the ABC's and the
123's, the children also learn key school survival phrases and how to behave in a school setting.
The program currently operates Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday,
and Thursday from 10:30-12:00 (unless Metro schools are closed for bad weather or holidays). Contact us to learn
more!
Nations Academy
Nations
Academy, the umbrella term for our youth programs, provides multiple learning opportunities for youth. In addition to
our after school program, we partner with LEAD Academy in providing academy support to refugee youth enrolled at LEAD. Contact
us to volunteer!
English Language Mentoring
Nations Ministry
Center also seeks to provide educational opportunities for adults. Our English Language Mentoring program provides focused
English learning opportunities for refugee adults. Class schedules change with regularity; please contact us for
more information. We also match interested learners with volunteer mentors who plan their own meeting times for English
practice, GED preparation, and other language-related learning.
Summer Academy
While
school is out, NMC is hard at work providing education opportunities for refugee youth. When possible, NMC
provides transportation and registration services to Metro's ELL summer school. Local church groups and
volunteers provide recreation and tutoring opportunities. We also sponsor THE BIG READ, a summer reading program.
